The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be staged at 10 venues across nine South African cities. With 2 1/2 years to go we are set to host the world's biggest sporting event outside the Olympic Games. South Africa offers the visitor a variety of attractions. From the metropolitan cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria, one can easily travel down the N1 Highway to the central city of Bloemfontein with its beautiful flora. If breathtaking coastline is what you are after, journey from the "friendly city" of Port Elizabeth, along the spectacular Garden Route, arriving in Cape Town, one of the most spectacular cities in the world! Want to take a safari? Then Nelspruit and Rustenburg offer everything including the "Big 5"! Durban has a great climate and is a surfer's paradise while Polokwane is a vibrant city, rich in cultural heritage. Visitors will find our country positively inviting, with excellent infrastructure, transport and accommodation!

From the Editor

Being an ardent sports fan, it is with great excitement that I get the chance to showcase the host cities of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In the 13 years of democratic rule in South Africa, people have come together to create a country rich in tourism with thousands of international visitors gracing our shores annually. South Africa has some of the world's most breathtaking scenery, with an amazing display of wildlife. There are numerous game reserves, parks and nature trails that offer a taste of Africa's natural appeal. South Africa, with its ancient history and multitude of cultures, is a land of possibility and opportunity!

The second largest metropolitan area in Africa, Johannesburg or "Egoli - with gold in its mud", is the economic and financial hub of South Africa, producing 16 % of South Africa's GDP. Cape Town is a city of culture, that reflects in the architecture, cuisine, music and dance. From the legendary beaches to the breathtaking winelands, you have to visit here!

South Africa's bewitching seaside playground in the sun, where the proud Zulu nation meets East and West, Durban has from its earliest days, possessed a special charm.

Affectionately known as the Jacaranda city, Pretoria (Tshwane) is the administrative capital of our country. The historic Union Buildings were the start of post-apartheid South Africa.

Situated in the heart of South Africa, Bloemfontein is the Judicial Capital. The city is planted with dozens of rose bushes and the famous Orchid House is a must for any plant lover.

Port Elizabeth is the perfect complement to the Garden Route, Settler Hinterland, Sunshine Coast and Cape. This major sea port is situated along the beautiful shores of the Eastern Cape.

Covered in natural bushveld vegetation, Rustenburg is surrounded by the Magaliesberg Mountains. This region is a natural game area with a number of fine game parks close by.

Nelspruit is often referred to as the gateway to the Kruger National Park. With its sub-tropical climate and endless sunshine the area is synonymous with tropical fruit grown in South Africa. The city of myths and legends, Polokwane is the centre for local African culture in which the coming together of preserved social traditions and indigenous identity has taken place.
