Travel into South Eastern Lesotho over the spectacular mountain road of the Sani Pass, a well-known entry point into Lesotho from South Africa's
beautiful
uKhahlamba Drakensberg National Park. This route links the dramatic scenery of the Drakensberg with the mountains of northern Lesotho. A 4x4 vehicle is absolutely vital for this road, especially if the weather is bad. In the winter months (May-September) snow falls and snow skiing is possible.
Meander on into The Central Highlands, over newly created mountain passes with stunning views. This area is fast becoming one of the most attractive tourist areas in Lesotho and the Katse Dam and dam wall
is the centrepiece of the whole Highlands water project.
Incorporated into North West Lesotho is the
great national monument
of
Thaba Bosiu.
On top of this famous hill are the substantial remains of King
Moshoeshoe's
dwellings and villages, together with the royal cemetery of Lesotho.
The capital city of Maseru
is a short drive away from the monument and is a
quintessential African city. The village of
Teya-Teyaneng
is the craft capital, well worth a visit for anyone interested in the beautiful knitted goods, blankets and tapestries this captivating country has to offer! |
