The right whales are so named because, in the early days of whaling, they were the "right whales" to hunt.

Travel along the N2 from Cape Town to arrive in Mossel Bay,
a genuine, home grown, South African coastal town.
Steeped in history, the town saw the arrival of European traders, whose
trade revolved around the exporting of local products such as wheat. The granary was the starting point of growth in the town, and a contributing factor to the expansion of the harbour.
A leisurely drive along the coast takes you past quaint seaside towns until you reach Plettenberg Bay, arguably
the most fashionable spot on the
Garden Route. Fabulous beaches stretch for miles, top golf courses await enthusiastic players and polo fields encourage competition.
It's one of the best boat based whale and dolphin watching destinations in South Africa, the surfing is wonderful and mountain biking trails through the Harkerville forest offer great adventure!
Through the toll gate onto the Bloukrans Bridge, home to the highest bungee jump in the world and onwards to reach Storms River Village in the heart of the Tsitsikamma. Encompassing a marine reserve made up of 80km of coastline, this area offers the visitor magnificent scenery, beautiful walks and a small beach.
The famous Storms River suspension Bridge spans the river mouth and a wealth of bird and marine life can be found! |

Stretching from Mossel Bay to Tsitsikamma lies an area very close to my heart, "The Garden Route".
Sandwiched between the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains and the Indian Ocean, the
indigenous forests are a unique mixture of Cape Fynbos and temperate forest.
An incredible region of diversity, from a
shoreline dotted with beaches and bays to the "Klein Karoo", set in semi-arid valleys, heavenly coastal drives link charming towns interspersed with natural beauty offering adventure activities of every kind.

Since 1949 the Knysna Oyster Company has been cultivating oysters on beds in the pristine Knysna River Estuary. This delicacy is a must for food lovers! |
Bartolomeu Dias was the first European to set foot on South African soil at Mossel Bay. A museum is situated at the very site where he came ashore. |
