Hartbeespoort Dam has a capacity of 205 million cubic metres and its shoreline, when full, is about 56kilometres.
This scenic area has a great deal of leisure activities on offer, including an art and craft route, a heritage route, excellent accommodation and a variety of restaurants.
Declared a World Heritage Site in 1999,
The Cradle of Humankind boasts 15 major
palaeontologists sites, of which the Sterkfontein Caves is the most famous.
It was here that
the almost complete skull of an adult female Australopithecus,
"Mrs Ples" (2,6 million years old) was discovered.
An hour away from Gauteng's main cities, completely surrounded by a scenic and peaceful valley, you will find
Magaliesburg.
Steam trains visit the village regularly throughout the year, bringing visitors who want to share the history, nostalgia and tranquility that exist in country living.
