Rising 1086 metres at the highest point, Table Mountain is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Its flat summit stretches for almost three kilometres
and is home to a variety of fauna and flora, many of which are endemic and survive only in the unique ecosystem which is contained on the mountain.
Covering 528 hectares,
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden was founded in 1913.
Besides the spectacular gardens, this relaxing destination offers many different hikes from climbing Table Mountain or Devils Peak to a walk around Constantia Nek. Musical Sunset Concerts are held on the lawns on Sundays during the summer (December - March).
12 kilometres out to sea in the middle of Table Bay, you will find
Robben Island.
Starting out as a lepper colony (1846-1931), the island also housed political prisoners, the most famous being Nelson Mandela, until 1991.
Nowadays, the island has a thriving population that lives in the quaint village with a museum, bank, post office and grocery store.
