In Dysselsdorp, in the little Karoo, the roots of the liquorice plant are harvested and at the Dysselsdorp Liquorice company turned into many liquorice products. Although we think of sweets when we hear the word liquorice, medicinally, it has been used for centuries from the early Egyptian and Grecian times where it was used for treating coughs and lung problems.

The lush Green Kalahari Oasis of Keimoes consists of more than 120 islands which are linked through a network of suspension bridges. This small town is situated 45 kilometres south-west of Upington on route to the spectacular Augrabies Falls National Park.

Tzaneen lies in the Limpopo Province, a region known for its tropical and subtropical farming and lush vegetation, ideal for macadamia nuts plantations. Here the finest macadamia nougat is made. From fairly humble beginnings in the 1960's, when macadamias were first introduced into the country, the South African macadamia industry has grown into the third largest producer in the world.

The Dysselsdorp Liquorice company is the result of a community empowerment project in this small town of 12 000 inhabitants, where unemployment was high. Now the Dysselsdorper are tasting the "sweet" success of the new business - liquorice.

In the picturesque town of Keimoes in the Green Kalahari, sultanas and other grape varieties are grown under irrigation from the Orange River. Once harvested, they are spread out on fields to let them dry in the sun to become raisins.

Made by hand following the nougat making traditions inherited from the French, The Coach House Nougat Company's macadamia nougat is made from the finest and freshest ingredients, direct from the bees and rich Tzaneen soil.
