The Blue Train, with its aura of mystique and grandeur, has been host to statesmen and royalty alike. The routes travelled take guests through incredible scenery. Accommodation is provided for in beautifully appointed suites - each equipped with the latest modern conveniences and opulent bathrooms with gold fittings and marble tiles. With its headquarters at the private station in Capital Park, Pretoria, South Africa, Rovos Rail offers two beautifully rebuilt Classic trains. In a series of train journeys lasting from 24 hours to a fortnight, one is taken through scenic splendours as diverse as wildlife game reserves to the sheer magnitude of Victoria Falls. The trains - hauled by steam, diesel or electric locomotives at various stages of the journey - carry a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 beautifully decorated suites catering for your every need. Traditional furnishings and period décor ensure an atmosphere of elegance and grandeur throughout the train.

From Pretoria to Cape Town, through the gold fields of Gauteng and produce farms of the Northern Cape, your journey on board the Blue Train will also take you to Kimberley. This city was home to South Africa's original diamond rush and its Big Hole produced 2722 kg of diamonds in its days.

Journey from Windhoek to Swakopmund, where you will travel between the savannahs of the Khomas plateau and the incredible dunes of the Namib Desert. The train stops overnight at a lodge, an ideal base for sight-seeing tours, or extended game drives in a nature reserve.

33 kms from Kasama, in the Northern Province of Zambia lies the Chisimba Falls - a conglomeration of three components comprising of the main falls, Kaela Rapids, and Mutumuna Falls. The Bemba people of the region regard this area as one of the most sacred places of power.

Northbound from Cape Town to Pretoria, on the first leg, one is transported through the fertile valleys of the Wine Routes into the quaint village of Matjiesfontein. Known for its historical buildings, the village was restored in 1970 and declared a national historic monument.

The reverse route from Swakopmund to Windhoek stops overnight at a beautiful game ranch, where one is afforded the opportunity to watch the lions feeding. Blending in with the surrounding bush, the individual bungalows are spacious and private.

In south-east Tanzania you will find the Selous Game Reserve. Most easily accessible by small aircraft, the Selous Game Reserve has remained one of the untouched gems of Tanzania’s game reserves and offers you a chance to see wild Africa at its best.
