Travel Routes in South Africa

Travelling from Springbok in the Namaqualand to Pretoria, the N14 will take you through bleak, shimmering semi desert contrasted dramatically with lush green vineyards near Upington and the Orange River's fertile valleys. Highlights along this route include the worlds second largest wine co-operative, the Augrabies Falls National Park, the "Oasis of the Kalahari" at Kuruman and many charming little desert towns en route.

The Orange River drops 191 metres at the Augrabies Falls. The thundering cascade of water led the original bushman residents to believe evil spirits were active here.

In the centre of Kuruman, the "Eye of Kuruman" is the biggest natural spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The water rises in a dolomite cave and gushes into a pool.

Bobotie is a traditional South Africa dish, made of minced beef and spices and baked. It should be served with stamped rice, chutney, sambals, and fresh chilli. Bushmen were the original inhabitants of the Kalahari. A nomadic tribe, they live with few possessions and are best known for their dancing and music.
