| Route: |
From Plettenberg Bay to George N2, George to Oudtshoorn, Oudtshoorn to Beaufort West N9, Beaufort West to Britstown. |
|
|
| . |
| Highlights: |
In Oudtshoorn it’s all about the ostriches, the town bills itself as the ostrich capital of the world. It has a strong Afrikaner feel, with quiet tree-lined streets and shops and restaurants selling everything ostrich. The place was home to the rich ‘feather barons’ until the turn of the twentieth century, and many made a small fortune out of farming the strange birds. Today, the town capitalises on its past. You can visit ostrich show farms where you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about the birds, and probably a whole lot more. |

In George we had bought some food. Then we climbed up to the waterfall in the Meiringspoort canyon (near Oudtshoorn). The ravine is 90 m deep! |
