Visit of the Big Hole and the open-air museum in Kimberley.

Kimberley is synonymous with diamonds; it’s where Cecil Rhodes and the Oppenheimers, among others, made their fortunes and where De Beers began.
The well – stocked Diamantveld Visitors Centre (Tel. 832 7298) is near the corner of Bultfontein and Lyndhurst Rds.
The Big Hole & Kimberley Mine Museum (Tel. 833 1557; admission US$2; open 8am-6pm) is a reminder of the wild days when thousands of diggers flocked to the town and fortunes were made and lost. The museum incorporates entire streets of Victorian buildings and a diamond museum, all on the edge of the largest handmade hole in the world.
A special feature of this town is „Mampoer“ – a clear, fruity schnapps. Some of this bottles become – as warning before the high-proof alcohol – to sell wrapped with barbed wire! Zeerust, hardly 50 km remove from the border to Botswana, is a typical “Bushveld-Stadt”. A special eco-adventure is the Madikwe National Park north from Zeerust. Here are elegant Lodges. (absolutely booking!), a abundant birdlife, the „Big Five“. Mafikeng, the capital to the north west province is only ca. 55 km south from Zeerust.
