| Highlights: |
Nata: Nata Bird Sanctuary with the view at the Sowa Pan – is a must!
Makgadikgadi Pans: Before 100 million years this area with his enormous salt lakes was the ground from an enormous semi-enclosed sea.
Nata is not much more than a dust hole full of petrol stations with attached bars, bottle stores and takeaway shops. Most travellers use it as a refuelling stop between Kasane, Francistown and Maun.
Situated 100km west of Nata, Gweta is a collection of mud huts, and a solitary bottle store and phone booth operate out of a tin shack. It’s a friendly place with a rural African feel and is a good spot to look for lifts onto the pans.

| Diary: |
After our arrival at the campsite, we drove through the parched salt pans. Stopped at a lake where we saw flamingos, pelicans, marabus, dragonflys, storks, egrets, springboks and a jackal. |
