Gold of Africa Museum, South Africa Gold of Africa Museum.

Unique in the world and located in the historic Martin Melck House in Cape Town, the Gold of Africa museum complex is the world's first museum dedicated to the history of African gold.

Set in a strikingly restored landmark building the museum complex is dazzling. It is quite literally filled with gold.

The heart of the museum is one of the largest and most beautiful collections of African gold artefacts, the Barbier Mueller collection.

The workshop is well worth a visit where innovative gold designs are worked on using the museum collection as inspiration.

Enjoy audio-visual presentations on the history of gold in our presentation suite.  Browse the museum shop, where an exclusive and unique range of merchandise is on offer, including the finest examples of modern and traditional gold and jewellery in 18 and 22 carat gold.

African gold artefacts
African Gold According to Christopher Till, museum director, the vision of the Gold of Africa Museum is to present the gold treasures of Africa to show the artistry of ancient African civilizations as well as the ritual and power of African gold.

The goal is to preserve and pass on traditional designs and techniques to inspire and drive the development of a new idiom of African gold design.

No visit to South Africa can be complete without gaining an understanding of the story of African Gold.
