Karoo Toere, South Africa

Karoo Toere is a self-drive tour company operating in guided camping safaris. Our scheduled safaris range from one to eight days. It is self-catering and called "Between Nowhere and Nerens".

Experience the magic of the wide-open spaces in the Karoo (Northern Cape) and Little Karoo (Southern Cape). These tours take you beyond the main roads closer to nature on privately owned land.

Your tour leader is Henk van den Bergh. His enthusiasm for the Karoo prompted him to set up trails that would not only cater for the hardcore off-roader, but also for those who like to mix a challenge with a bit of heritage.

He guides visitors on all trails, gaining entry to farms and ensuring all points of interest are visited, as well as offering advice on the dedicated 4x4 sections.

He is known all over the province and his tour is for those who really want to get under the skin of the karoo.

A challenge with a bit of heritage

You meet outside the small town of Douglas, at the Douglas River Resort, close to Kimberley, and then spend seven days exploring Prieska, Verneukpan, Carnarvon, Sutherland, Nieuwoudtville, Brand se Baai and Strandfontein.

Travelling in a convoy makes it so much safer and only 10 vehicles per convoy are allowed. Ask Henk to take you the immense but forgotten railway graveyard just outside of Carnarvon or hidden antique shop in Church Street.

The tour costs include the following:
  • Accommodation for 8 nights
  • Boat trip on first night
  • Mampoer & Liqueur tasting
  • Drive on the famous "Campbell track"
  • Visit to the Observatory
  • Flight trip
  • Trip with Pont Ferry
  • Honey Farm
  • Nut Farm
  • Diamond Sorting Plant
