Of French Huguenot origin, L’Ormarins
was established in 1694, when 4 000 vines were planted on the slopes of
the Groot Drakenstein mountains fringing the Franschhoek Valley.
In 1969 the property was acquired
by the Rupert family, who launched a major preservation and development
programme. |
| Vines are grown mainly in terraced
vineyards on a variety of slopes and at varying altitudes, creating conditions
that favour a distinct diversity in grape properties and lend a unique
character to L’Ormarins wines.
Only noble cultivars are produced
- Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon - complemented
by a classical Claret blend branded as Optima. |
