Mountain Sanctuary Park, South Africa

Come and join us in the Magaliesberg. Take pleasant walks, swim in mountain streams, watch wildlife going about its business or just chill out and unwind.

Mountain Sanctuary Park is a private nature reserve in the Magaliesberg Mountains, five hundred feet above the Grootfontein valley. We are approximately 120 kilometres west of Johannesburg and 90 kilometres west of Pretoria.

Come for a week, come for a day or come for a morning. We have been a haven for hikers, birdwatchers, botanists, game viewers and all those seeking refuge from urban stress.

Guests have the freedom to explore approximately 1000 hectares of incredible scenery. On your hikes you will encounter strange rock formations and crystal clear mountain pools with the purest mineral water, good for swimming and drinking. If you do not have the energy to walk to the rock-pools, then stroll down to our lovely pool.

Inside the log cabin

Accommodation in the reserve consists of fully equipped selfcatering chalets, log cabins on stilts and large campsites.

We have a lapa for our campers when rain makes outdoor-living a little too primitive for their liking. The lapa is primarily used for functions like rustic weddings, teambuilding and birthdays.

Freezer facilities are available for camper's food and drinks and we have a small shop for those extra chips, cold drinks and ice that you might require.

The reserve is a true sanctuary for a wide variety of bird and animal life like klipspringer, duiker, leopard and smaller animals. Ask for a spotting list at the office, then take a walk and see what you can spot.

A short walk takes you into one of the kloofs where you can relax under a tree with no sound but a gurgling stream. The more energetic can hop on their mountain bikes and burn off some excess energy. There are also a number of abseil and rock climbing sites on the reserve.
