Porcupine, Art out of
Africa.
Unique galleries offering a selection
of contemporary African art forms in ceramics and textiles.
The art pieces in the Porcupine Galleries
range from Raku ceramics of Porcupine – copper and brass inlayed mirrors
of Sue Jowell – and the beautiful hand embroidered shangaan cloths of Letsitele
with their mythical story telling. |
| Porcupine “Raku Art of Africa” has
created a unique and sophisticated collection of contemporary “Raku pitfired”
ceramics, inspired by the diverse cultures and art spread across the length
and breadth of Africa, truly projecting the feeling of Africa in art forms
of beauty and sophistication. |

The Raku firing process imparts
an excitement, with glazed surfaces crackled, flashed metallic and blackened
by carbon. Each piece having been created by fire and no two pieces ever
being identical.
The Porcupine Studio produces a range
of about 145 different pieces, from small decorative art pieces, to lamp
bases, ceramic mirrors and plates. |
