The Pretoria Art Museum opened in
May 1964, and is the city's only fine arts museum.
The collection of more than 5000
works of art includes paintings, sculpture, graphics textiles, photographic
art, ceramics, basketry and art glass.
Hosting national and international
travelling art exhibitions, there is always something new to see. |
| We also recognize the influence
of traditional or "classical" African art, and have collected pieces from
West and Central Africa.
Our aim is to reflect the art historical
diversity of South Africa. |

Our museum is a non profit making,
permanent institution in the service of society and of its development.
Open to the public, which aquires,
conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits, for the purpose of study,
education and enjoyment, material evidence of man and his environment. |
| The educational role of a museum
is at the core of its service to the community.
We offer guided tours, workshops
and involve all the art forms in its various activities.
We also provide something playful
for the very young, something for the avant-garde and always some old favourites. |
