Southern Right Charters, South Africa We are situated in the Heart of the Whale Coast, in the Hermanus New Harbour at “The Whale Shack”, a little blue hut, right at the waters edge.

We are the licensed permit holder for Walker Bay - Hermanus. Our permit entitles our vessel to approach the whales up to 50 metres. We then stop and the decision is left entirely to the whales whether or not they wish to approach the boat - being curious creatures, they often do come right up to our vessel. It is definitely an experience to be treasured.

The duration of a trip is normally about 2 hours. It can go up to 3 hours, depending where the whales are on that trip. A competent, registered skipper and whale guide specialist are in charge of the vessel.

Our motto: “Observing not Disturbing”. We usually encounter Southern Right whales, seals, penguins and marine birds. We are fortunate enough to encounter dolphins, Bryde’s (our resident whale throughout the year, unfortunately rather shy), and Humpback whales on certain of our trips.
