Our award
winning 4 star guesthouse is to be found in the heart of the vast open
Karoo.
We are centrally
situated in Graaff-Reinet, the fourth oldest town in South Africa. With
more than 200 national monuments the town has been described as “a living
museum” and is worthwhile to be explored. |
| The guesthouse, which is situated
in an old manor house erected around 1819 and is listed by the National
Monuments Council, has five cozy en-suite double rooms, all air-cooled
and elegantly furnished, with comforts to pamper.
Guests are
offered both personal and professional service. |

Andries Stockenström
is famous for it's Karoo style regional haute cuisine and the four course
dinner is a highlight. In the “Gem of the Karoo” this is indeed a culinary
oasis.
While the high-ceilinged
and carefully restored dining room is elegant in appearance and classical
in appointments, the food pays homage to the most modern tastes.
The four course
menus change regularly to make use of the best and freshest local products
- From Baked Goats' cheese salad with aubergine and figs to Karoo
Spring Lamb and Dark Chocolate cake with white chocolate ice cream. |
| Visitors have never been short of
things to do here.
Graaff-Reinet is surrounded by a
nature reserve with the awesome Valley of Desolation the focal point -
14
kilometers from town. Go on a game drive and experience the tranquillity
of the surrounding reserve. Or enjoy the healthy climate and explore the
reserve and the Sneeuberg mountains on one of the many hiking trails.
Visit the Owl
House in the village of Nieu-Bethesda. Hundreds of figures, camels and
sphinxes, made of cement and glass, all paying homage to the East are on
exhibit. You can also walk through the colorful house of the artist Helen
Martins, regarded as an eccentric, devoting her life to her beloved owl
statues, and "the search for light and brightness". |
